  • Horse Creek Chert from Tennessee

This Horse Creek Chert is from Tennessee. I purchased this chert because I have yet to knapp any Horse Creek Chert. This is some very colorful chert, as you can see. If Greg is watching he might want to use the pictures in his lithics project.

Thanks David, I hope I can do this beautiful stone justice. I will be patient with this stone as I probably will not see much of it.

Love that Horse Creek material. Maybe the most beautiful type I've seen. I've got some pieces made from that stuff outta West Tennesee.

Hey Mike, I photographed the pieces wet to show the colors as well as possible.

Thanks Deb, It will be a challenge to include all the colors in a point. I will have to try to save some of the edge stone.

There is a man who attends all the south east shows that has a frame full of points made of that material. Beautiful stuff Ron

Thanks Matt, I figured you would be familiar with this Tennessee material. If you come across a picture of that frame full I sure would like to see it.

Very nice materials and photos Ron! I would like to purchase a nice Horse creek Chert artifact someday as ill probably never find one myself. Nicer artifacts of that material seem to fetch good prices and its easy to see why. Im curious about how well that stuff knaps so ill be waiting to see how they come out. Thanks for sharing and contributing to the info section also!

Hey Josh, It spalls clean and that is a pretty good indication that it will flake good. The variety of color and that deep red center just blow my mind.

Thanks Ron, the pics will be a great help to others looking to learn more about Horse Creek chert.

Just saw this thread and thought I may add, this may be the frame of horse creek points you guys spoke of. I took a picture of it at the Savannah, TN show last year.
