  • it was glittering in the sun...

    On a recent hunt on a bright, hot, sunny day this rock jumped out at me. It looks to be a quartz. The glitter caught my eye. Anyone ever run across these. I'm sure ya have.
    The chase is better than the catch...

    It looks like a porphyritic granite or granitoid. Within the quartz matrix, the platy glittery crystals that caught your eye are probably mica (or biotite) and the elongated black crystals are probably plagioclase feldspar.

      Thanks Pains. I figured quartz but had no idea on what was blended in with it.
