  • Good way to end a dry spell!

    Hello,

Went to a new spot today with Shedhunter and we weren't having much luck. We were about to leave when Matt found a nice little rhyolite triangle. After that we of course decided to stay and keep looking. After another round of no luck we decided to check one more area before getting in the car and going to another spot. I'm glad we did that, there was a killer over there. Can anyone tell me what type it is or what material it might be? Thanks in advance.

Awesome! Maybe it's slate, doesn't look like it was knapped.

I would call it an Atlantic Phase Blade they are a bit earlier than SNook Kill points terminal archaic time period. That type is found mostly in MA and RI . Nice find man. I think the material is some type of volcanic tuff in the rhyolite family the material just did not weather welll which gives it more of a ground look. That was chipped and when new it was a very sharp knife. However weather really does a number on some materials . The uneven shoulders and asymmetrical blade edges are very telling that this was a knife form and not a projectile.

You got two good ones there. I like the color of the rhyolite in that first pic. That second one is made of some odd material. Looks slatish but I'm not much on material and I don't think it is. Hoss is probably right.
