  • Would these be knives or scrapers?

    I'm not sure if these would be knives, scrapers or preforms.

    All edges are very sharp and they are biface.

    They could be any one of the three you mentioned. To tell the difference, look at the edges. They both appear to have fine retouching along the edges, as well as chips removed from use. So I would say they are knife forms, and without a hafting element, probably used as is, without a handle. On the left, the straight side would be the cutting edge, and on the other, either side would be used, based on the way it's flaked. But that's only an educated guess based on photos. They both look like the lighter color of Onondaga Chert, and would probably be Early Woodland in age, 900 B.C. - 600 B.C. These dates vary according to region, Ontario and western N.Y. would fall into these dates for the Woodland period.

        Agreed with the fellas above. Nice finds. They do appear to be used as handheld tools of possibly a dual purpose.
