  • Nutting Stone and ?

I found what I think is a nutting stone in southern Illinois in a creek. The other piece is from Granville county, NC. Thoughts? Thanks.

How big are they? and which one is from where? The hole in the rock looks natural to me.

The "nutting" stone is most likely natural. It's amazing how many stones have these amazing basins that look like they must have been hollowed out by man, but are totally natural. I sat along the Little Pigeon River in TN one fall & counted a half dozen stones with bowls or basins worn away by water over time.

After all the books I have read and utube
sites I know that's what it is . Funny before I
knew what these were I use to take two stones
to break nuts and a small hole started to form .
Then it got larger so I understand the process now
as well as researching them and seeing them for my own eyes . Great find enjoy and keep it up .

Given that these appear to be laying on a piece of embossed paper towel I will ask again how big are they ? It is always a good idea when you post a question to return and answer any questions someone may ask of you. It is further suggested to always put State and County found you did that awesome. Please take new pictures and post them with something in the picture to reference the size of your object in question.
