The Gardiner Petroglyph
One of the most common design elements in rock art, in both petroglyph and pictograph form, are images of the human hand. The Upper Paleolithic cultures of Western Europe left stenciled images of human hands deep within that region's limestone caverns. Such images are open to interpretation, of course. Kilroy was here, or something more?

The Gardiner Petroglyph is located in Washington Co., Rhode Island and is a pecked in image of an oversized left hand in granitic hardstone. These images were taken by myself in the late 1970's.
