  • A yankee doodle dandy day.

Saturday started off slow with a penny here and a beer can there.
When I finally got my first keeper of the day it was a very nice surprise. Click image for larger version

Not the normal trash that I post. Click image for larger version

ID:	238199 I mean the Saturday morning after Friday night drinking trash.
This was the first of three trips to empty my pouch.
And yes that is a crack pipe that you see there. Click image for larger version

Why do I pick up all of this crap.
First and foremost ever since taking up this great hobby I have come to abhor trash.
And I have also come to the conclusion that the parks workers here use an out of site out of mind style of grass cutting.
If they don't see it they slash it. And there are kids who walk through the parks barefoot Click image for larger version

A friend and detecting partner of mine (Eric) once commented to a bottle collector that he likely made more in a day picking up bottles and cans than he did finding clad with a detector.
And I believe it. This weekend recycle alone paid the gas. Click image for larger version

This proves the point about can hunting verses clad hunting for this weekend at least. Click image for larger version

Just as darkness was closing in at 5 o'clock.
My last keepers of the day showed up.
    Who'd of thunk it.
4 keepers and they are all old Yankee coins. Click image for larger version

And since neither had any markings.
They required a unique acid test.
6 hours in the tumbler will most definitely remove any plating.
And the ring did not survive the test. Click image for larger version

The thaw has finally arrived here in Victoria and by the end of the week the short grass areas should be huntable.

Hey Bruce - Some of those coins you're finding look like they may be collector items. I know US liberty sitting and Barber coins are sought after here in the lower 48, Ever check into it say on ebay or somesuch?? ...Chuck

You find some amazing coins Bruce thanks for sharing. Cool story about the V nickles. The first year they were issued was 1883 they just had the V the word cents was omitted. There was a blind guy who would file ridges into the edge to make it look reeded like a dime or quarter and then plate them gold. I have one around here someplace. No reeded edge on mine so I am pretty sure it is not an original racketeer coin. https://coins.thefuntimesguide.com/1883_coin/

Not quite Fort Knox but it is a good retirement fund.
