  • Torn, worn or stained who cares, they are all keepers.

The last four days have been a soggy mucky mess.
If it has not been rain all out it has been drizzling.
In spit of that quality time has been had with the magic walking stick for short periods every day.
Believe it or not gas was actually covered for the four days.
As the daily round trip was only 1.6 miles. Click image for larger version

When the ground is like a sponge and the muck oozes out with every step it is good to not have a ton of crap to deal with. Click image for larger version

But once things got rolling they just kept on going.

ID:	242898 At this point the dry ground ran out and a move to some place not covered in water was in order.
Up and over the hill was the next little area to scan and it was a good one.
These all came out of an area only 4 feet wide by 75 feet long. Click image for larger version

ID:	242907 The last item is sort of a head scratcher.
When it was found I saw what I thought was China written on the bottom.
So I tossed it into the tumbler with the rest of the crap.
This was more than 4 inches down, and the condition says that it is not white metal. Click image for larger version

Good finds, my friend. Now not only can you chauffeur yourself from site to site, you've also got a spare tire in reserve.

I would rather have that spare tire sitting in my clad pile than the one I carry around on my waist

Bruce you always turn up neat stuff. That CHIM Charm was a head scratcher for me. Interesting history on it. Keep on swinging that detector and keep us guessing.

Thanks Johnny. Most of the coins were in excellent condition. Some are stained but that matters very little when the condition is good.

Question Bruce: Do you have any idea what five cents in 1899 would be monetarily equivalent to today? I often look at your coin finds and wonder what could have been purchased at those various times for the particular amounts. Also, thanks for sharing.

That is a very good question. I have often wondered about that myself.
Back in the 1800s you could buy a lot for very little.

This is a bit far back for me but I do remember them at 10 cents.

This is as close as I could come to getting comparison prices.

I guess that most of the members here know the term 2 bits.
this link explains where the term originated. and also when the nickle came int being.

A dozen for $3.00 sounds reasonable.
