I really want to thank everyone for the last contest! Here is the next one, "Best In Display"Another prizes of a 12th addition of Overstreet. Ends August 15th!

This contest consists of show your display of artifacts! it can be one in a frame, a room. just show us your artifacts! Tell us why you like your display! I have seen where collectors have made frames of animals. Imagination is the key!!!

I don't think he means artifacts must be placed in shape of a bird or spiral pattern, just an example I imagine. I will put a few points in a display case to My liking and if I win a book, sweet if not no biggee though and do appreciate the opportunity. Thanks again Chase on another sweet contest!

But looking forward to seeing a slew of great framed artifacts!

This contest is a fantastic idea Chase. A couple of weeks ago I did a search of this site entering the search word "FRAME". I was simply Awe Struck with the results. I am looking forward to seeing frames of interesting artifacts and perhaps even more special... The stories behind the displays. Thanks for the contest.

New frame I put together the reason I like this frame is because I took the pic of the NA and incorporated it in with some of my artifacts think it turned out really nice.

      Ten Lake George Points
This is a group of 10 Archaic to Adena artifacts attached to an old wooden cigar box lid.
The longest is 3 3/8". There is writing in graphite on the back of the wooden cigar box lid.
Using Photo Shop to enhance the writing, I can read the following:

      No’s 468 to No 477
      10 Pieces
      Found on Lake George
      Yazoo Co. Miss
Found by B Butler in 1896

Butler probably found the points at the Holly Bluff Site.

I removed the ten points from the lid enabling me to clean an atmospheric film from the points.
This simple cleaning revealed a variety of beautiful materials. On the back of one of the points
is an old tag which reads:

      Indian Arrow,
      Yazoo Co. Miss.

I cleaned the wooden lid and sprayed it with a clear satin spar urethane. With the points removed I took many photos. When I finished taking pictures I reattached the points to the lid in the same manner they were originally tied in 1896.

That frame of Hi-Lo is great. I know Justice put them in with late paleo because they have been found with Caribou and Moose remains vs Megafauna, but archaeologists in Canada tend to clump them in much earlier. Derbert (Clovis) and Crowfield in Canada were also Caribou hunters.

The dowel is hot glued to the backing, you will have to cut a small slit or hole in the felt . I paint the dowel black then cut it to 3/8 of an inch . Once it is glued to the backing, position the point and hot glue it to the dowel . Hot glue works best if you don't like the position it is easy to remove and re position !

            The Texas Woods
The points are from Texas and the material is petrified wood. I like the pattern and that does show well in my picture. However I have not figured out how to show the beauty of the petrified wood in a picture like this frame. I include here a close-up of a few of the points in this frame just to show the colors in the wood. I like Native American artifacts and I like petrified wood: A combo of the two is pretty special.

This is not mine but a friends thought this was a good way to display points. Its a table and sand was put in it for the natural look and points are displayed on the sand. Also its a good way to display broken points because you can stick the broke end in the sand and its like a in-situ point.

                  U.P. Pots & Points
This frame of points and pottery pieces is from Luce Co. in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. I like these pottery pieces: Many are rim pieces and several are from the same pot. There are some nice designs in the pottery. I will include a close-up of a few of the pottery pieces.

What.... Spokeshave (my guess re-salvaged point) Where.... North central Kentucky (Louisville area) How.....He was hunting Arrowheads.

I have posted this many times on here before. He is a very good friend of mine, that I have known for many years. When ever I get into a close range of him, I make a point to tell lies on his porch. When I first met him he had a house phone only,(since then he has made strides and got a cell phone)(still has no internet,or computer. He has an amazing collection, and gave me access to taking pic's with permission to post. I thought this was worth for a best in display, even thou it is just one point. I am posting this on his behave. We talk from time to time, and I saw him a few weeks ago, I showed him what was going on here on AH.com, and he was intrigued with the best In-Situ thread, and did ask how that was going. When I posted the winners, I thought of him. He called me up a few nights ago, and said that he had the winner for the contest, but could not figure out how to use his cell phone to take a pic of it. SoI thought that I would add this artifact to the best in display.

That is the story on the How, why I posted this.
