    Bifurcate Points
    Posted by [Hoss]

Moderator Note: this thread was first posted in 2012 but failed to transfer across to the new forum when the software was updated, and so has been re-created manually.

I have always been a huge fan of bifurcate points. I picked this one up last week. Looks like a MacCorjle to me. I have more I will add later on. I guess you can tell from my avatar I love a good Bifurcate. Show them if you have them.
Opinions are welcome on this one too. It is from Simpson Co KY.

These pictures just do not do justice to this point. In hand it is an artifact you just do not want toi put down. I think you all know that feeling.

Wonderful objects. Hey, can someone help, is bifurcate pronounced with an "i" as in "binary"? Seriously, I don't know. Thanks.

Nice bifurcates. Always one of my favorites as well, but except for the Taunton River in Ma., they are pretty rare in southeastern New England. Not impossible, but here are the only ones we've personally found.

I would be inclined to call that a MacCorkle the base flares and it is a larger Bifurcate point type. That is a beauty is that Flint Ridge material?

Thanks Hoss, yes its flintridge white.

Always been a biffy fan myself. I find Kanawha / LeCroy / Culpepper Bifurcates in my area. Fox Valleys are scarce but I occasionally find those as well in Wv.

I don't believe I've ever found one up here Hoss, but I'm still looking. Some in the pics posted
kind of look like concave bases, so I guess I don't know for sure where to draw the line, but some
are pretty obvious. Love the one you have as your avatar. Gary

This thread just keeps getting better ,,, all that was in one cach ??!! Wow !! how deep was the cach?? Was it in a camp site or overhang or was it just by chance that you found it ??

                Posted by [Hoss]
Sam those two frames just blow me away. Man what a find. It is highly unusual to find a cache of finshed points. It does happen but that is a rare occurrence. That is a find of a lifetime. I have only seen two caches come out of the ground and both were all unfinshed blades. First one I saw had 33 bifacially falked ovoid knives. all white quartz all about 1 and 3/4 long.. I will dig through my files and see if I have a picture of them. The other were all a red slate material, seven blades all oval and one quartzite one in that mix. Every one in both caches was very crude.
Thanks for sharing that picture with us Sam and lets see some more of them points you been finding.
                Hoss

Wow! Extremely rare and lucky to find such a cache. Hard to top that, but I guess you have to keep trying to!

I agree with the others, Sam that is an amazing cache and the first of its kind I have ever seen.

Nice points everyone- And thanks for the comment on the cache. It was dug up on a campsite about a foot deep. Dr. Goodyear with U.S.C. said they look McCorkle so that's good enough for me.- A few more S.C. finds. The last piece is a slab that was found with the cache may-be used as some type cut/work table or raw material for later use.

I was looking through my Overstreets and I seem to have mis identified this point. I always felt it was different from any other MacCorkle I had found.. Now I know why. This looks a lot more like a Neuberger Simpson Co KY find.
