The local stuff I am torn between. Burlington and Rhyolite. There are plenty of more colorful, textured etc materials out there, these just happen to be what I am thinking of walking through the field or near creek...

I created a thread for this material just last week, so Hingham Felsite from south of Boston is probably my favorite...

yellow jasper these were all found in Western CT between Milford and New Milford along the Housitonic River and it's tributaries. The Material may have been traded in from as far away as Southern PA or Rhode Island. Some may have just been found in CT as I have found this material sporadically in CT. A friend of mine had commented on finding a three hundred pound boulder of it in the woods near Woodbury CT I am sure because of finds of raw material like that some was deposited into CT via glacial activity.

:rolf:  Nephrite Jade, Banded Obsidian, carnelian agate, Dendritic Agate, Fossiliferous Chert, Jasper, Jefferson City Chert, Knife River Flint, mahogany obsidian, Novaculite, or petrified wood … or that multicolored one… or one I haven’t seen yet. :rolf:
Then again I do like quartz especially rose quartz and banded quartz.

Well since probably 70 percent of everything I find in Illinois is white Burlington (or pink heat treated Burlington), anything of a different color is special. One that sticks out thought is Attica or Indiana Green. We don't find it often but love it when we do.

I like the type of quartzite that many collectors call sugar quartz. Hixton Quartzite is the best known, but I don't have any. Maybe someone can post some Hixton. Here are some pieces I like made of "sugar quartz" quartzite.
