Repatriation ? The chance of those artifacts being stolen by Native Americans 35 years ago is very minimal. And the idea that they would steal them, I think, is insulting to Native Americans tribal groups. They were likely taken by people who knew their value on the black market and wound up in the collections of private collectors soon after they were stolen. Valuable art objects, whether European fine art or pre-Columbian artifacts from the Americas are not traded on the internet. Those of us who post on this forum would have no way of getting into that black market network unless you could afford to pay many thousands of dollars or more for high-grade stolen art.

Of course I'm not saying the NAs 'stole' the artifacts Joe, just that I wouldn't rule out anything until some type of evidence is found into what did become of them - they may well be sitting on some wealthy person's mantle for what I know. There was a lot going on politically during that period with the NAs, and I don't think they would have thought they were with the (then) rightful owners.. just sayin'.

It's nice to read a heartwarming story & see tribal treasures returned to their rightful owners. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the links Charlie. I did know that some were returned - I was just using that auction for a quick reference as to the feelings, and reverence the NAs felt towards their ancestor's/tribes belongings, but not very well apparently..
