It's pretty amazing that oral memories, in excess of many thousands of years old, to a time when the continental shelf directly offshore of southern New England was still above water in places, could be retained by 21st century Narragansett. The aboregenies of Australia retain accurate memories in excess of 10,000 years. But I just would not expect it of those natives here that were impacted the earliest by European settlement. Yet these memories have continued to be passed down to the present day. I guess I continue to be surprised and impressed by that fact.

Submerged Paleocultural Landscapes Project
This is a potentially significant research project underway in the waters of my home state, and offshore. Excited and proud to see this happening here. The collection labeled "Gallo Collection" was put together by the daughter of a friend of mine. Great stuff here, and with the assistance of the Narragansett.
