Neanderthals, Stone Age people may have voyaged the Mediterranean

Evidence suggests Neanderthals took to boats before modern humans
(PhysOrg.com) -- Neanderthals, considered either a sub-species of modern humans or a separate species altogether, lived from approximately 300,000 years ago to somewhere near 24,000 years ago, when they inexplicably disappeared, leaving behind traces of their DNA in some Middle Eastern people and artifacts strewn all across the southern part of Europe and extending into western Asia. Some of those artifacts, stone tools that are uniquely associated with them, have been found on islands in the Mediterranean Sea, suggesting, according to a paper published in the Journal of Archaeological Science, by George Ferentinos and colleagues, that Neanderthals had figured out how to travel by boat. And if they did, it appears they did so before modern humans.

Interesting stuff Olden. The more we search, the more we learn and realize our initial ideas were mistaken. If we could keep an open mind, we just might learn some of this stuff faster or sooner.

Fire, tools, jewelry, art, customs, the list goes on and on, Neanderthals had already figured out these things long before humans showed up on the scene, I can imagine they figured out the concept of boats too.

Hey Dan, Interesting read. The Neanderthals knew a lot more than the people I watch on survivalist shows. Thanks for the links.

            Hey Tam,
To me, it also adds credence to the theory of the preclovis people settling the Americas by coast hugging boats..

That was lovely !!! I truly enjoyed that little clip .My brother was a big surfer and he was the one that told me about a group living in Malibu canyon . So illegal to walk back in there . But of coured us teens had a rope on a tree to swing into the small river . Didn’t scatter until the police helicopters
came . Now if I only knew to look for artifacts oh it kills me .
What a beautiful place to live .

Hey Dan, That short video is good. I love carbon dating and DNA research. If we know a lot then we still have 99.999% to learn.
