It surely is an impact crater, but on site mineral analysis awaits to confirm. The timeline is c.12,000-3,000,000 years, so it's understandable that hope it's a Younger Dryas impact crater is high, but it's a big date range, until it isn't. I doubt there will be any shortage of funding to answer those questions!
Most of Earth’s surface has been plotted, mapped and measured. And along the way, scientists have turned up a plethora of craters big and small. But there was always one major crater missing.

Very informative YouTube video of this discovery. This impact may be the source for the Cape York iron meteorites, which were sourced by Eskimos for the production of iron tools. That would make this an even more exciting discovery and indicate there may be many more Cape York meteorites awaiting discovery....
