In the above thread I promised to post additional info on the Eppes Island biface. Unfortunately, still have not obtained any photos, and the only additional info that emerged is that the blade was found in 2 pieces beneath the colonial foundation, had a constricted base with concave basal edge, base thinned with pressure flaking and a search of collections local to the Eppes Island site revealed similar blades made of local materials. I was also unable to contact Mr.Speakman, whose test revealed the biface to be made of French flint, and was therefore unable to raise with him the doubts noted by Roger regarding just how reliable the test is in determining the origin of lithic material. Finally, further down in the "Archaeology and Fossils" category, I posted a photo showing both sides of the Cinmar blade shown on the cover of Stanford and Bradley's book. Methinks I'll long be in my grave before this hypothesis gains much traction. But, you never know, just might depend on how much archaeology can really be undertaken on the continental shelf.Rhode Island
