        Interesting, and not really surprising to me.

        The Hopewell, Adena and some later Mississippian peoples in Ohio, Kentucky & Tennessee used quite a bit of human bone for relics. There is a whole class of "shell" gorget made from craniums, and lots of use of mandibles. The debate has always been if they were trophies from enemies, or relics from a loved one.
