  • What is the material?

    Hello,

Not much luck this weekend. I think this might be a scraper or something... Can anyone tell me what it's made out of? I was thinking maybe felsite or a quartzite cobble? No idea, thanks in advance.

EDIT: One more question, is there any way to roughly date a scraper or tool?

Felsite is my guess also. Here's a couple pics of a felsite reduction site along the seacoast. The first pic is of a large 2' X 2' X 3' boulder with chunks chipped off of it and the second pic is of different felsite broken open cobbles found nearby.

Without direct context there is very little in the way of dating scrapers.
Used throughout man-kinds history of stone tools.
It is a "Rock" when it's on the ground.
It is a "Specimen" when picked up and taken home.
