The second image is a strap handled water bottle variant. Usually the have one neck, and are called long narrow neck bottles. I've seen one with two necks, but they were short, and I've never seen one with two that were joined. Do you know where this came from??

A lot of modern stuff in these pictures that pipe is not very old. There was a guy making them and then he wrote a book about the pipes he made. Except he claimed they were real. Animal effigy hopewell pipes are extremely rare. The most ever found were at Tremper Mound up in Ohio. Most of that collection ended up in a Museum in the UK. I think the pot is someone's idea of a wedding vase. Not real sure how old that thing is but the Navajo people make the style to this day. Look on the bottom some of the makers sign them.

I've seen modern version of this Hoss, but I've never seen one made to look old. They usually are very pretty, not that this one isn't beautiful, ...if that makes any sense. 😜

It could be 100 years it could be older or younger. It is a cool item but not having any provenance really hurts any historic significance. This happens with old collections. My Dad had a bunch of junk in his collection too. It happens. In my honest opinion the old time collectors did not do this intentionally . They did it to expand on their personal finds collections and usually bought stuff outside of the area they actually collected. In doing so they looked for G 10 stuff they really had no idea what they were buying or trading for. They just wanted bigger and better looking. Fakes and Modern material has been being produced for well over 100 years. I read an article I think it was in Wiki stating that old Time Archaeologists would sell fakes to millionaires up in Newport RI back in the 1880 and 1890's in order to procure funding for more digs.

Good points, for sure. It's an easy one to verify, age wise. There's a test I saw done called thermalluminescense (http://www.oxfordauthentication.com/...g-process/)Not knowing where it came from is the most disappointing thing to me.

of course, I'm a sucker for beautiful pottery.

Im sure you probably knew about this test...I think they've been doing it for a minute or two.

I've seen a good many fakes/reproductions, and hand-held they are easy to distinguish for a trained eye, much like some of you are with hard rock artifacts, I'm sure.

Hoss, i need you to keep posting, it keeps me level headed. I see artifacts and immeadiatly they are real to me...

I just clicked that link it is 400 dollars US and the item would need to be shipped to the UK for sampling. SHipping a item this size would take at least a medium sized priority mail box to the UK . Medium sized ones I have sent run $65.00 one way. They also would have to take a sample right from the pot? It seems that the sample is very small. http://www.oxfordauthentication.com/...sting-process/

Another thing about this one is it looks to have some restoration on that handle. I could be wrong about that. Click image for larger version
