  • banded slate celt

Hey everyone, new member from SW Ohio. I found this celt while walking a field a couple weeks ago, and it's actually that first tool i've ever found. I was wondering if anyone knows the time period this would have been from. Archaic, Adena, Or woodland?

I don't know about Ohio artifacts but that's a very pretty piece of slate.

    Great find.

Congrats! That’s an amazing find! Looks like a Hopewell rectangular Celt to me and a very beautiful example at that!

Awesome! Welcome to the forum! I am not sure of the age, but I think it is an Adze.

They usually used slate for other things than a Celt like Banner Stones and Gorgets that’s a rare find.

I think it would be safe to say it is a woodland period artifact. That is a super nice celt. Thanks for sharing it with us.

That’s a wow factor and a great find . Done have never found one like that ( me)
as far as time period that’s a hard one . If Hoss says woodland I’ll stick with that . Research yourself for your own satisfaction .

I had a great uncle who was born in 1889, and when I was kid I spent countless hours with him. One of my most favorite sayings of his that I still use is “I’d rather be lucky than good any day.” This applies full force to that find....
