  • Duck Foot Effigy?

This was found on my friends property where numerous artifacts have been discovered. It's unique shape drew me to it. It looks like a human effigy, but its one edge is flat so perhaps a person lying down? The alternate shape of a duck foot is not as exciting...lol
If anyone has any ideas, I will appreciate your input.
    Thanks!!

It's exactly how I found it. Pretty sweet polish job. Do you think it was worked to that sheen, or a natural occurance?

That's not an effigie but keep hunting. You are about 10,000 times more likely to find a knapped artifact than an effigie.

I have found numeeous fish weights, stone beads, morters and pestles, and a plummet on my friends property, so far. I have found a few arrowheads made of obsidean. I believe the area was inhabited by the Pi nuk, a sub tribe of the Maidu.
I will follow your advice and keep looking, thanks.

Hello. I’m just a novice who would’ve said last year, “beautiful rock”! But now I say what Rio said, “great lithic”!

I'm an aspiring collector. I just love how these things "jump out" at ya. Man made items just look different, most of the time that is. Sometimes it is really hard to know if it is an artifact, or just a rock...this is one of those...lol

Just looked at your post of multiple artifacts, and saw when you joined forum in 2013. You not “aspiring”, you there, bona fide Artifact Collector! I’m looking forward to learning from you, too!

I doubt NA venerated ducks’ feet enough to carve an effigy. A nice polished rock.

If it's not an artifact -which, being the imaginative type, I won't discount it entirely, - it's still a fantastic stone.

Hope you post some Maidu stuff (for us to look) at sometime.

It’s Possible your Stone could be NA. It’s definitely unusual and does show some Characteristics similar to ‘Henwas’ from the Klamath/Modoc Tribal Region Just North of Butte County.
