That's the epitome of a backed knife! I have one just like it but couldn't find it. They seem like a hefty tool.

Very nice! I was just interested in seeing some examples. I find so many in the the main creek I hunt. I would think they would be from most areas around the world as it just makes complete sense to put pressure on the back of a blade.
Just a side note: I joined a Missouri Facebook group and posted some tools online including spokeshaves, backedknives, limaces and one point. And yes, they were artifacts. but not the beautiful spearpoints. I absolutely got ripped by most everyone posting that the point was the only artifact I posted and the others were just normal rocks. They only wanted to see points posted and most had no knowledge of any other artifacts that were in existence, but to be absolutely mean about it? Made me remove myself from the group, and that was the only FB I do! Its unbelievable how people can be trolls for a conversations about stones.. Thanks everyone for being kind!

The basalt scrapers are among the most undervalued, not monetarily speaking but rather like they are overshadowed by flashier materials. In truth the people in nor cal appreciated workable basalt very much.

Banded cutter of some kind. Has a mostly unworked back surface if that’s what constitutes a back knife.
