  • Negative fossil impression

I have only seen two of these in any collection and one of them is mine!
It has been confirmed it is an impression of a jellyfish species un-classified.
The other specimen is in another private collection.
Their multiple impression specimen is from the Woodbine
and mine is from the Eagleford formation of dallas Co. Tex.
The eagleford formation has produced some really nice stuff,
it is one of my favorite formations to haunt!!!!!

It is a "Rock" when it's on the ground.
It is a "Specimen" when picked up and taken home.

Jessy - That's a super looking fossil.  Are they rare.  Seems like jelly fish would be the last thing to leave a fossile because of their soft structure.  ---Chuck

Chuck, Yes they are very rare.
It is truly not a "fossil" so much as just a cast of an impression of a creature long since vanished. Just like "foot prints" they are just impressions.
Mine is a natural cast of the original impression.
As I stated I have only seen two specimens of a jellyfish impressions/cast and one of them is mine. The other is in a private museum in Denton Texas.
The fleshy material lasted long enough to get covered and left an impression only. It takes some very special conditions for this type of impression/cast to even exist.
              Thanks for your input.
