  • Can you help me out?

Hello everyone, today I found my first fossil. I don't know much about fossils but can anyone help me identify what this is? Thanks a lot!

Jess will be far more able to assist than I can.
To my untrained eye though those marks look more man made than natural.

Thanks Bruce! I've never really seen a fossil before, I just knew it looked interesting. I found it on a beach at westmoreland state park, VA, called "fossil beach" haha

    Fragment of turtle shell, IMO.

It is a "Rock" when it's on the ground.
It is a "Specimen" when picked up and taken home.

Well now - I'd never have guessed that one. We find some strange stuff on the ground.

That's very true! I found it on a beach called "fossil beach" after searching for about an hour.

I think that it is a myliobatis SP dental pavement!

Bingo, although I know little about East Coast material after takin a gander at some other finds from another source I concur with the myliobatis.
It still looks quite a bit like a softshell turtle fragment.
