  • What is this?

    Hi!
My son found this rock on a pig farm in western Kentucky. The land has been strip mined for coal. It weighs 9lbs 14ozs. Is it a petrified log? Anyone have any ideas.
Would love to hear everyones thoughts on this.

That may be petrified palmwood or some related species like cycad. It's a pretty fossil.

Thanks Cliff -and- Greywolf for you help. That's what I had come up with as well from my researching, but it's always nice to hear it from someone else just to confirm it.
