Campbell County Tennessee I found this rock today that was imbedded with what looks like shells? Please comment. Looked for points too. First time in the field maybe a four acre field only one small flake. The field needs more rain. I will go back after the next storms pass through. Maybe not a prolific site but fossils and one flake worth a look see after it gets washed down better.

Paleontological maps of TN show Devonian to Early Carboniferous in that part of the state... They sure look like shells and marine fossils, maybe bryozoans. Look for a brachiopod in the mix. Nice plate, man! Wet it and take a pic please.Professor Shellman

I noticed today I picked up the wrong rock to bring home Now I have a reason to go back even before it rains lucky it is only three or four miles away. I just hope I can re find it now. It will give me a chance to go earlier in the AM and perhaps the view will be better than when it is sun bright afternoon.

Agree with Tom, take photos wet, maybe use paint and circle best examples. I see what look like tiny cephalopod/ammonites, but I also don't trust I am seeing things clear enough....Rhode Island

Even wet they are hard to see. The other day I carried two rocks back to my truck. I set them down and brushed some dust off of myself and decied to leave the rock there that I thought was just some litic material. Well In my haste I picked up the wrong rock and today I went back and got the one I left laying there. LOLTN formerly CT Visit our store http://stores.arrowheads.com/store.p...m-Trading-Post

Cool stuff.
Highly weathered brachiopods and gastropods with what looks to be a cephalopod.
All seems to be weathered to a point of split in two.
Flagstone material solid enough to be utilized in building descent wall embedment.
Conglomerates are some of the best collectables.
Nice find.
Too bad pointy projectiles were not forthcoming, maybe next time "somewhere else"

It is a "Rock" when it's on the ground.
It is a "Specimen" when picked up and taken home.

My dad used to say something similar. We never come home empty handed from a hunt.TN formerly CT Visit our store http://stores.arrowheads.com/store.p...m-Trading-Post
