    If it's a snail, it's a lil' on the chubby side...

          It appears to be a very water worn(smooth) trilobite fossil.

            That's interesting....I've always wanted to find a trilobite....but all that I have seen have been "stretched" out and imprinted in rock......did trilobites fold up like a like a snail would?

                  It is a snail. From the extinct genus Gastropod and the exact specimen is a Bellerophon from the Ordovician period. I have attached a picture of a Bellerophon for ID comarison. If you google bellerophon fossil , you will find more like yours for further ID. Yours is a very fine example. Louvier
