        Definitely coral, we have tons of those here in middle Tennessee. Things like mushrooms normally won't fossilized because of the soft tissue. Also the area you found it in give you a better idea of what it might be i.e. if you have a bunch or limestone normally that is a tell-tale of an ancient ocean floor. Sandstone tends to lean towards an ancient desert or sand river bottom etc. If you give me a rough area I may be able to identify it with a reasonable degree of accuracy.

          Looks like it may be a subtype of rugosa which were colonial corals. They are pretty common. Google rugosa and check out the Wikipedia article to see some other pictures and find out more.

            There are several limestone quarries close to where I live near Pontiac, IL.
