  • Huge Fossilized Coral??

This large black rock caught my eye as I was crossing a small creek here in North Central Kentucky. It has a perfectly round top with the rest of the body shaved down to a round point almost like a kids spinning top or a mushroom. Another thing that stood out is the groove in the center which looks like it might have been worked by a tool.

Im thinking it might be a fossilized coral? Any ideas would be
    welcomed.

That is coral but I do not know the species/types in Kentucky... but I think it grows like that with a "base" of sorts... If it is not chalky or has a hard, glassy interior the NA's would make killer points out of it!

Thanks for the insight TC. I was thrown off a bit due to the texture on the top that resembles pecking marks and that groove carved in the center. It was a fun find.
