  • French gun flints

I've been surface collecting since age 5. Now 76. Mostly along Delaware Bay and south Jersey creeks and streams. Am retired lawyer and clients would see displays and bring in donations(...often in lieu of fees). I have a box of what I believe to be French gun flints, a spotted-splotchy tan, somewhat translucent. 1 3/4 x 1 1/4 mostly, with variations in size. All appear unused. Anyone have any idea of value?

Sorry George we do not discus values on the forum side of arrowheads.com. The opinions are too far ranging. One person who really wants one might say ten dollars each and another person who already has 40 and is a dealer would tell you 25 cents each. If you have a box of them they are probably modern. There is a market for modern made ones. Are you certain the ones you have are from France? Craig Ratzat a modern knapper makes and sells a lot of gun flints and I am sure he is not the only one producing flints. Here is a link to his site. http://www.neolithics.com/gun-flints/

By the way although we do not discuss values we would sure love to see some of your examples. Please post a pictures of a couple. Also we would love to see some NJ artifacts we have several members here who are from NJ and many from the North Eastern states please share some photos with us.
