  • Rosetta Stone

I was looking at a page for Today in History and came across this article about the Rosetta stone. Found by a French Soldier in Napoleon's Army July 19 1799.

Kinda gives you chill bumps, huh?! ....does me. I have some stuff written in hieroglyphics; sent away for it many, many years ago. Who knows if accurate (but we didn’t have eBay scams back then- - -‘ course, didn’t have internet!). It’s very pretty and intriguing, regardless. Yay Rosetta Stone and multi-lingual priests!

The Rosetta Stone, an important clue in cracking Egyptian hieroglyphs, is one of the most famous objects in the Museum, but what is it?

When I click on this, the story I get is “Neil Armstrong Walks on the Moon”. For July 20th, so I’m guessing the page changed as the date advanced.....

Apologies folks. Because that article was on today in history you will need to click the link I posted below. Or you can mouse over the date on the History Channel today in history page and select July 19th and see the link to the story I shared yesterday.

It's amazing what one artifact did for understanding ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.
