    Found this piece of agate yesterday are the pop marks from being heat treated or is it just the way the agate was breaking?? I've never found any thing else with dimples like this piece.

    RQ, from the looks of the stone, IMO this is more from water freezing then heat treatment. Well that is to say that it could be from a fire (forest fire) or freezing but not heat treatment. But because I see no alteration in color it leads me to believe that this "pot lid-ding" is do to freezing. meaning that the moisture in the rock or cracks in the rock allowed moisture in to create the effect you see. That is just my opinion.
    Look to the ground for it holds the past!

        That is really wild! I think I agree with Chase too. If it was heat treated it would have been done before knapping.
