  • Snapped Teardrop in Amazing Lithic

This end scraper was snapped off on the small end where it was hafted.
The lithic is awesome. It's a clear stone with white puffs inside.
I thought I could get a picture on the scope but the scope only focuses
on a small spot. As usual I wish the picture showed what my eyes can see.

Oh yes, From Colorado Wasco Co.

I would call that a nice scraper but "outstanding" material!

That is beautiful and interesting material Ron. However the artifact looks to me like it was originally a microblade core. Your great pictures show the little blade removals from the front end.
You have found a really cool artifact.

I have seen this exact same agate in southern Utah. There's another similar agate in the same area that has red inclusions that's called Pigeon Blood Agate. Purdy stuff!

Bill the artifact is an end scraper. What you see in the second picture is the distal end. The scraper is unifaced and has a steep bevel on the distal end. The distal end of an end scraper is the thickest part of the artifact. From the thick distal end the end scraper is tapered along the lateral edges and across the top. It tapers down to a narrow and thin proximal end where the end scraper was hafted to a handle. You can see many on this thread:

If you look at the underside, you will see what looks like prismatic blade removals. Yes you might have found an end scraper or you may have found a micro core.
I have found these on late Paleoindian/Early Archaic sites.

Hey Bill, The artifact is an end scraper. If you look at the distal end you can see the use wear.

Awesome scraper. With material of tat quality, Im amazed it wasn't traded to the best knapper in the village to make something special. material like that would have been valuable.
