  • Couple more scrapers

I have loved watching the scaper contest, It made me think if a couple I think are pretty neat: first pic is the smallest scraper I have; it is unbroken and worked all the way around. I don't even remember picking it (guess I thought it was just a flint chunk) and recognized what it was at clean up.
Next two pics are of a scaper that puzzles me. One side flaked and is beautiful pink gray and shinny(polished?) the other uni face side is very dull. I'm cool with uni face but why is it so dull compared to the other side? How does that happen. Both are field finds.

That is some nice material on the second piece. As far as the shiny vs. dull in my opinion the shiny side was protected from the elements by being face down or buried and the dull side has been subject to rain and wind and dust giving it that sandblasted appearance.

Properly heated material turns color all the way through, but the exterior of it is dull-looking like that. The inside is glossy.
