A few years ago I realized that there was an interesting material/lithic being used around the area of east missouri. There wasn't many other people showing this material but one day when visiting an archaeology day at mastodon historic site there was a couple of guys that was there to identify finds (Eric and another guy) and one mentioned it looked like rhyolite. Well back then there was far less about mo rhyolite on the internet. So I put "it" out there at every chance and eventually met some other folks that had also found rhyolite points.
It varies in color (brown, grey, maroon etc.) and kind of reacts to light with all the tiny crystals throughout. A piece may appear brown in shade and when took into the light may appear more purple. Anyway, it's always been a favorite material of mine along with burlington and love finding a point made of either but a rhyolite point gives me a little better idea of the history it might have had. The material is concentrated to a certain area in S.E. MO. so i guess my imagination fills in the blanks. :dunno:
Anyway here is a couple links to a natural area here in MO. that looks like a great place to visit
