      If I'm not mistaken gun flints are thicker, but I definitely could be wrong.

          Yep, likely gunflint... here's a French gunflint i found thinking it was some exotic prehistoric material, took it to the museum and they said "French Gunflint" very matter-of-factly. I guess the material is a common French import... yours looks similar.
