  • Ok geologists...I need an answer on these...

    I walked a new field yesterday and ran across a lot of these two. Particularly the caramel colored one that I rarely see in my area. One corner of the field by a small creek had alot of it. They are both about fist sized. I'm in N'eastern Illinois...
    The chase is better than the catch...
    I'm Frank and I'm from the flatlands of N'Eastern Illinois...

    Look's like Burlington (crescent quarry) Chert. One on left having heavy stain.

      If most like these I'd guess glacial cobbles. I see many like the caramel colored one but never that big.
      Searching the fields of NW Indiana and SW Michigan

        That was a smaller one that I could carry easy. There were some good sized ones. Ok guys thanks I figured Burlington (what else) Chert on the whitish one but wasn't sure on the caramel one...
        The chase is better than the catch...
