  • Beautiful banded chert from cobble.

    Just wanted to show this beautifully banded piece from a creek cobble. Found here in Scott county Missouri.

          There's another chert from the same area as Jefferson City, but lacks the colors of reds, and yellow, called Mozarkite. It looks like banded agate that's found in layers and in geodes.

                I feel like it's closer to crab orchard chert. The cobble likely came from the Everton or St.Peter's formations and I lean toward the st.peters judging by the cortex and that it formed as a cobble.
