        Our Burlington and Jefferson City Chert get's that color from Creek's and River's.

          Someone else just suggested to me it is Carter Cave Flint, from KY. After looking at a bunch of images of that type chert...it sure looks like it. Take a look at some ...

          and L- Man.....I had never heard about Jasper feeling 'greasy'.....but I will say it does feel very, very smooth.....Let me think on that a bit. I have a few Jasper pieces, I will have to feel and compare. Thanks for your interest everyone.

            I have plenty of Carter Cave flint here...I mostly see it in lighter colors, but that wouldn't surprise me if it came from the Ohio river. Now that I think about it, Ohio river Carter Cave chert looks like that, so that's what it may be.

              I think theres another jasper source up there besides the Pa. Jasper.... Pleasant Valley I think it's called. Not 100% sure. Not well known.

                That is definitely jasper with a good patina! I have found a lot of jasper pieces that are identical in color down here in SE Arkansas. Beautiful material and is very smooth almost “waxy”
