Help with Rock Type on this Celt

Found in drained marsh area ...Ontario Canada. Have many celt finds, but nothing close to this spectacled material. Thanks, Red

Yeah under a different heading..".learn about lithic material". I'm guessing that's why there are different areas of the forum...to address different questions . I posted this in show and tell after being asked to post any others that I had. I happened to mention in the description that I could use some help with the rock type, but didnt state this in the heading, nor was this my initial intention when I merely posted this to show. After making myself more familiar with the forum today, I found what I understood to be , a more appropriate area of the forum that might address my specific question based on the title of the said heading.

That is one dandy of a celt WW. I would say its some kind of granite being from Ontario and it has that look to it. Awesome find man...

porphyry: a textural term for an igneous rock consisting of large-grained crystals such as feldspar or quartz dispersed in a fine-grained silicate rich, generally aphanitic matrix or groundmass. The larger crystals are called phenocrysts.

I’ve seen some of that material around here in one creek but it’s a green instead of a black. I’d like to find something made from it. Sure is pretty

Next time your out in the creek...grab a piece...start pecking and polishing and you'll be on your way. Lol...would be nice to have that talent wouldn't it? Very nice celt. Do you look in drained marsh areas for artifacts often?
