  • Obsidian cobble core

    Hopefully it's not too nerdy to celebrate the humble core.

    This is an example of a local (Napa) obsidian cobble that has been partially exploited.

    I like the way it shows platform preparation and how the flakes removed are generally well-shaped for further work.


    I think the variation in colour of this cobble is due to exposure - the duller grey/green faces weathering slightly differently than the black.

    Nice colors on the core. If they show a lot of work I keep them also. I have a mini core that's really cool looks almost like a cone due to a dome shape of it. I don't think its nerdy at all.
