Flint, It great that your son has such a keen interest in points and lithics. It looks to me like your whole perimeter of points could be calchedony.
(My only calchedony point, brown tint due to table top & wishing for a better camera)
(Anne Arundel Co. )
(Microscope shot of above)
A lot of the whitish calchedony that I see down here has "oil spots" running through it. I use the term "oil spots" because some look like a liquid string of dots, they are probably some mafic inclusions.
There is also another type called WAC, or Weather Amber Calchedony that was favored by the Paleoindians. It looks its been peeled from geodes to me, I think it occurs in PA too.

Chalcedony, agate, flint, carnelian, jasper chert, chrysoprase, onyx, Petrified wood .... ALL are microcrystalline/cryptocrystaline quartz as opposed to macrocrystalline quartz like citrine, amethyst, and rose/smoky quartz. I think for example though that in microcrystalline quartz varieties there are more "impurities" which produce variations.

I'm no geologist - and a simple wiki search would be a more reliable - but my understanding is chalcedony is a metamorphic rock with a micro/cryptocrystalline structure. Agate and jaspers are both chalcedony with one being clear and the other opaque. Something like that anyway. Lovely stuff.
Agate and jasper.

I am so tired of looking up lithic’s and trying to learn these . Thank goodness I mostly have coattail plain Chert , quartzite's. Rarely Jasper .
I appreciate it when one of you lithic experts puts it in writing .

Chalcedony
Nuther One was a hoot today.
He was rattling off as many lithics as he could. For a kid finishing Kindergarten, I was more than impressed!
He was probably close to the neighborhood of twenty!
To the point, he is curious about Chalcedony.
1. Can anyone share info on this desirable, translucent lithic?
2. Are any in this pic Chalcedony?
Thank you!
