  • Pearl white Steatite ?????

    I found this piece of soapstone today pearl white never seen that color any one know we're it came from ???

    It might be chlorite. It is found in several colors including white , green , black , pink. Chlorite is soft but not as soft as steatite.

        I made the previous post with my phone the smaller screen did not show the photo to well. Now that I see the layers I think you have a raw piece of Talc .

          Cool piece...that soapstone is almost pure talc....rub it on a cheese grater and you'll make baby powder.....I can see schist or graphite in
          SW Connecticut

              Shades of green are the most common color of chlorite that’s found in New England. Chlorite can usually be found in the same quarries as steatite or soapstone. Soapstone preferred for utensils in Transitional Archaic times. Quarries were reopened in Woodland times to quarry chlorite, the preferred material for the production of pipes.
