  • Heat treatment

I’m very new to heat treating material for flint knapping. This is only the second successful run I have done so far using flakes that I’ve struck from creek cobbles here in central texas. Anyone have a clue as to what material this may be? The heat treatment created reddish tint just beneath the cortex as you can see, and once flaked it’s a beautiful glossy brownish color. Thanks for any input!

Last pic shows a small flake I removed, I’ll post more as I go along but I just took it out of the fire pit yesterday and only got to nestle a few blows before bed 😁
