  • Any ideas on chert type?

This is the first point I ever found and only full one so far of this type material. It was found in Hardin Co., KY. I assume it is a chert, but would like to know more about the specific type. Any ideas?

I am not sure on the material but heat treated was the first thing I thought of too.

Thanks for the feedback. What are the signs or indications of being heat tempered?

Most flint/chert that is heat treated will turn a pinkish to red.

I find a similar flint one state up in Indiana. I don't think it's heat treated up here. I find flakes of it also. Not sure of type though. I call it Indiana pink or Indiana red. Yours may be heat treated though, not sure. Maybe carter cave (carter county) flint. That type comes in orange, tan red and pink and honey brown.this type is also from Kentucky and can be found in surrounding areas.

Thanks Jeremy and that's a nice point you have there! The carter cave flint does look to be very similar in appearance and its definitely common to the area where I found the point. Very possibly a match!
