            It was probably ornamentation. Banded slate is not real common here but is found. Rest assured itwasluck, this is not new. I found it in Central Illinois on an Early Woodland site and that is circa 1000 B.C. here in Illinois.

                  I have found 1 banded slate peice but its a knife type almost scrapper maybe both lol I love the color in it very cool peice.
