  • need a little help please

    My question is about the third picture where it's broke.  How did this "scrapping tool" originally look?  It looks fine the way it is!  As you can see a piece half the width broke off.  Thanks!

    Looks like an Archaic Knife that broke then was partially reshapened on the broke end. The area that looks snapped may have been what was left of a drill that snapped off in use. This piece of chert had a pretty good life.

      It could have been just about anything Dan.  They reworked it into a square knife, a form that was used in just about every time period.

                  I agree it is impossible to tell what its original form was but I would say this is a complete piece. The Indian probably valued this very nice piece of flint and was going to use it up. I too would call it a square knife and I could find space for it one of my frames.
