    Found along the edge of a river in Connecticut any idea what this could be

      Was thinking a celt possibly for making acorn mesh flour.Just a guess found this along Salmon River Connecticut.Perfectly square end and edges.

        Not a celt. Celt is a wood working tool basically a celt is an ax which has no groove. They were socketed into a wood handle rather than lashed like a grooved axe would be. A pestel would be the tool for crushing nuts. Your item is neither a Pestle nor a celt. It looks like a river worn rock to me.

      I would agree with Hoss. The part you are showing doesn’t show use wear, and what I mean, would be a surface ground smooth. Rivers make a lot of smooth rocks themselves.

        Because of where it was found and because of the reasons already given previously I believe it is just a rock.
