  • Hi-Lo

I made a stop at my favourite antique store yesterday. Fortunately, this item was waiting in one of the display cases.

Side Notched Hi-Lo; Late Paleoindian, 10,400-10,000 BP, alternately beveled, basal thinning, basal grinding, Onondaga chert.

It is 4 cm in length, 2.2 cm in width, and 6 mm thick.

The snapped tip is an ancient break.

The artifact was found in the St. Thomas, Ontario area.

And just think Hi-Lo - you didn't have to go hiking through all kinds of brush, creeks, hills and gullies to find it either. Maybe I'll give that a try as we have bunches of antique stores around here. But I figure I'd better take somebody with me that knows what he's looking at.

The store has indeed yielded a few gems Chuck.

I am confident that you too will be as fortunate when you scour the antique stores in your midst.
