People salt sites and they suck for doing it whatever their reasons. Examples: I found these 5 fakes on a midden site. 2 once, then one at a time. The larger knife is real and I suspect the one with auricles. I could tell the material of the five was not from the site and the workmanship is crappy and the points are not of the type/age as found on the site. It's Pasco Co. coral..... Found out later that a local near the site had company from Germany and he wanted them to find a point there when visiting...... It stormed after he salted it and his company did not find any... but I did. Another person salted this same site, a coastal shell midden, with a fake Spanish coin...... GRRRRRRRRR!!! DON'T SALT SITES!!!
